Antinori, a Tuscan vineyard a few hours outside of Florence Italy, can trace its history back to 1385. Their famous wine, the Tignanello, with the right company, is an experience that is transportive. For my father's recent birthday we did a vertical tasting of 3 different decades of Tignanello and it was amazing to discover how profound an impact the weather and climate can have on wine; they were indistinguishable.
Villa Antinori is a few beautiful hours drive from Florence and its vineyard tour, tasting and lunch are truly special. But this isn't what makes this experience extraordinary. It is always the how, and not the what.
We recommend procuring Italian road bikes (Pinarello is my favorite) and cycling there (it's a few hours) followed by a cold shower, a strong espresso and a tall glass of sparkling water. There is a little guest house next door where you can pay for a shower before you hop over to Antinori.
After the tour, lunch and a nap in their garden overlooking the vineyards, you can throw your bikes in a minivan (also easy to carry a few cases home in) and return home to the 6 room Fornace Suites which was designed by the Florentin design firm Archea Associati (who happened to also design Antinori).
It's like you never left. The six suites inspired by the masters of Italian art express the colors of the Tuscan landscape and the hues of Florentine sunsets; we recommend the Michelangelo and Donatello suites. I need another few hours to describe the beauty and magic of Florence but I will leave that to your imagination.
